International Student Identification Card (ISIC)

International Student Identification Cards (ISIC) benefit student travelers by providing student rates and discounts for airfare, for museum admission, for Six Flags admission, for lodging at hostels abroad, for bus/train travel abroad and for discounts at certain retail stores.

An ISIC costs $25; cash only ($22 for a card, plus a $3 processing fee). Remember, an ISIC is a form of photo identification, and you will need a passport size photo for the card to be processed.

The Anthony Travel office at the LaFortune Student Center (University of Notre Dame) can process your ISIC and can also provide passport photos. Passport photos are $10 (cash only) for a set of two.

Stay in Youth Hostels

The International Youth Hostel Federation incorporates over 5,500 hotels around the world, each offering low cost accommodations to members. Since the first youth hostel was opened in 1912, a wide variety of hostels have been established, ranging from castles to mountain cabins. Youth hostel facilities differ according to location and size. Many provide low cost meals, while others have kitchens where you can prepare your own food. Advance reservations are accepted at certain hostels, some require deposits with reservations.

Youth Hostel Memberships may be purchased through any Youth Hostel Association located throughout the United States. Please call (202) 783-6161 for the closest location to your hometown. For more information about Youth Hostels, please visit www.iyhf.org.
